He was born to Asa G. Beckett and was the grandson of Lucas A. Beckett. In the 1950's, he was stationed with the U.S. Army for two years at Fort Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska. On March 22, 1959, his engagement with Anne Katherine Milikowski was announced. The couple were married on October 3, 1959. The reception was held at the Hartford Saengerbund Hall, after which the couple left for a wedding trip to Niagara Falls. After they returned from the trip, they lived at 282 Barbour Street in Hartford, Connecticut.
In 1964, the couple were living in Thompsonville, Connecticut.
After a divorce with Anne Milikowski, he remarried to Joanne Turek.
